Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 oz (75 ml) gin
- 1/2 oz (15 ml) dry vermouth
- Ice
- Lemon twist or olive for garnish
Instructions:
- Start by chilling your Martini glass. You can place it in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the ingredients.
- Fill a mixing glass or a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Pour the gin and dry vermouth over the ice in the mixing glass or shaker.
- Stir the mixture gently but thoroughly using a long cocktail spoon. Stirring, rather than shaking, is the preferred method for a classic Martini. Stirring helps keep the drink clear and less diluted.
- Empty the ice and water from the chilled Martini glass.
- Strain the chilled gin and vermouth mixture into the glass.
- Garnish your Martini with a twist of lemon peel or a green olive, according to your preference.
- Serve and enjoy your classic Martini!
Remember that you can adjust the ratio of gin to vermouth to suit your taste. A “dry” Martini typically has less vermouth, while a “wet” Martini has more. You can also experiment with different garnishes and even try variations like a dirty Martini (with olive brine) or a Gibson Martini (with a cocktail onion).
